What will Luxury Travel look like in a post Covid-19 world?
This was a question I was asked this week in a discussion forum. The easy answer at this point is really - ‘Who knows?’ Until we have a vaccine in place, it’s difficult to predict just what the future will hold, but here’s The Take from LivingxLG on some of the trends we predict to see:
Fewer, More Meaningful Journeys: Travellers will be much more discerning about taking that spontaneous weekend jaunt away, and, in our mind, will be much more planful towards fewer, more meaningful journeys. Unforgettable experiences will still be the desired currency and we feel people will make the investment for something very special.
More Private Jet Travel: Given the uncertainty and inconsistency in commercial airline travel, the well-heeled will opt for more streamlined options. Look for a rise and expansion in Fractional and Private Jet ownership, accompanied with richer offering of services and perquisites in getting from point A to point B.
The Desire for More Private, Secluded Holiday Options: Far from the maddening crowd will be the order of the day, with holiday seekers searching for isolation, seclusion, off the beaten path experiences, served up with superior service, exceptional hygiene and care. Avoiding the crowds will be de-riguer.
The Rise of Health, Wellness and Mindfulness Related Holidays and Services: During weeks of quarantine, in the midst of juggling home schooling, zoom calls and quarantinis, we have all had the chance to reflect on what’s most important in life. Nothing is more precious than overall health, and consumers will be putting physical, mental and spiritual health high on their priority list in making travel decisions. Travel destination health & wellness services will be in higher demand than ever before as consumer mindset is shifting.
Security and Peace of Mind at the Forefront of Planning: Now more than ever, we see the increased importance of appropriate travel and medical insurance whilst abroad. Premium travel service providers, payment card providers and other suppliers will be in a virtual arms race to ensure insurance offerings are competitive and compelling for consumers. Consumers will become much more demanding and attentive to these services, and given the uncertainty of the current situation, costs will likely be on the rise. Providers offering enhanced services such as Covid-19 and antibody testing will also capture the attention of premium customers. As always, read the fine print and buyer beware.
The situation will be ever changing, and likely these trends, too, will evolve. Hope this gets us all thinking. Who knows what will happen in the future? I, for one, hope it all comes back to normal soon - whatever the new normal will be. That’s ‘The Take’….
Until next time, stay safe!
